Auto Defrost Freezer Not Working
If the defrost timer is not advancing replace it.
Auto defrost freezer not working. If the defrost sensor fuse blows the defrost system will not work and the refrigerator will not defrost. The defrost sensor has a fuse to back up the sensor in case the sensor fails. 5 check if the defrost timer defrost heater and the thermostat are working correctly. If the defrost sensor fails to shut off the defrost heater the fuse will blow in order to shut off the defrost heater.
If the defrost sensor fuse blows the defrost system will not work and the refrigerator will not defrost. Move on to the next step if this does not resolve the defrosting issue. The defrost sensor has a fuse to back up the sensor in case the sensor fails. If the defrost heater assembly is defective the defrost system will not work and frost will continue to accumulate.
The defrost sensor monitors the temperature of the evaporator. You can use volt ohm meter to check the defrost sensor for continuity. If the problem is not resolved the freezer will start to thaw as well. The normal freezer temperature is between 0ºf and 5ºf.
Here are some things to check for if the freezer is running too warm but the refrigerator section is maintaining the desired temperature. A manual defrost freezer does not contain any automatic heating elements to prevent the build up of frost or ice. The automatic defrost should now work if there is no other issues with the defrost system. Replace the defrost sensor if it shows no continuity at around 0 degrees f.
In most cases the problem is a defective defrost timer. To begin with it will seem like the freezer is ok but the fresh food section will start to fail. The fuse will blow in order to shut off the defrost heater. A defrost thermostat opens the heater circuit when the evaporator temperature rises above a preset temperature 40 f 5 c or more thereby preventing excessive heating of the freezer compartment.
The defrost timer is such that either the compressor or the defrost heater is on but not both at the same time. It requires the owner to manually defrost the freezer coils as frost builds up. The defrost heater assembly turns on several times throughout the day to melt away any frost that may have accumulated on the evaporator coils. If the defrost sensor trips because it s not working correctly frost builds up on the evaporator fins eventually making the refrigerator and freezer not cool well.
The freezer s set temperature is correct. If any of them fails to function the defrost system will not function. If the defrost sensor fails to shut off the defrost heater. Ice buildup in the freezer cabinet is an indication that the auto defrost system is not working.
When the coils are covered by too much frost and ice airflow is restricted and the freezer won t efficiently cool food.
